about the last ride project.
The Last Ride Project is an ambitious world’s first in global ski mountaineering, and an exploratory documentary investigating catastrophic deglaciation and its effects within the wider climate emergency. Our aim is to become the first people to climb and ski the tallest mountain on each of the seven continents - from Kilimanjaro at the peak of Africa, to Mt. Vinson in the far-gone plains of Antarctica, and culminating in a nail-biting winter expedition on Mt. Everest.
Our mission.
This feat, however, is simply a backdrop to our ultimate goal - to develop a greater understanding of climate change, showcase the beauty and fragility of our world, and most importantly share innovative and actionable strategies to preserve it.
The people.
Over the course of this project, we will collaborate with a wide network of inspirational people and delve into their positive actions in the face of this growing crisis. We will endeavour to meet a broad and inclusive range of people from leading climatologists and environmental activists to local communities and individuals around the world.
why is it ‘the last ride’?
Tragically we will most likely be the last people to ski the Seven Summits, as their historic glaciers are melting at an unprecedented rate. For example: scientists project that the ice fields on Kilimanjaro will be gone within a decade, and the glaciers atop Puncak Jaya (the highest peak in Australasia) with have disappeared by this time next year.
When can you tune in?
Right now!
The project has already begun. We successfully summited the highest Peak in Europe (Mt. Elbrus in Russia) in September 2021, and Mt. Kilimanjaro (the highest free-standing mountain in Africa) in March 2022. Our aim is to release this story as an 8-part series upon completion, and you can follow us every step of the way through our social channels and that of our network of supporters and sponsors.
